TRAVAX Cruise Travel Advice Updated

28 November 2016

The advice on TRAVAX for Cruise Travel has recently been reviewed and updated. Health Protection Scotland would like to thank Mrs Carole Tracey, Cruise Ship Nursing Officer (Msc, Bsc (Hons), RGN, PGHELT, FFTM RCPS (Glas.) for providing the content for this revised page.

Cruise travel has expanded considerably in recent decades from 17 million passengers in 2009 to a predicted 24 million in 2016 (Cruise Lines International Association, 2016). Itineraries include all continents and vary in length from on average one week to many months. The average age of a passenger is over 50 and cruises attract older travellers with chronic conditions. The updated advice page gives information on preparing individuals for undertaking this type of travel, including how to prevent and deal with the most commonly encountered problems.
